If you want to install XP, you should have a minimum or 512MB RAM, more would be better.
If you want to install Win7, you should have a minimum of 1GB, again, more would be better.

Buying online is a bit tricky though as you may end up with a pirate copy and a Product Key that does not work or activation that fails.
